Pediatric Tongue Ties and Lip Ties - Atlanta Georgia

Description:

Pediatric Tongue and Lip Ties: Diagnosis and Treatment with Soft Tissue Lasers An American Board of Laser Dentistry Certification Course

5% or more of the babies born in the United States have such tight tongue- ties and frenum pulls that they cannot successfully latch onto mother’s nipple and breastfeed. For the baby, serious consequences include loss of weight and the label of “failure to thrive”.  For the mother, this results in sore and cracked nipples, mastitis, painful engorgement and post-partum depression due to an inability to nurse her baby. This has classically been treated by a physician taking a scalpel or a pair of scissors to the newborn’s mouth and cutting the attachment. These treatments can be imprecise and lead to suboptimal outcomes.

Today’s treatment of choice, however, is for a dentist to use laser technology to painlessly, bloodlessly remove the attachment, allowing the infant to immediately nurse! This not only provides superior outcomes for your patients but a significant opportunity to improve your practice.

About the 2-day Pediatric Laser Tongue and Lip Tie Certification Course

This 2-day participation and certification course will teach the medical and dental team how to accumulate all of the required data via history intake forms, perform a clinical examination to arrive at the correct diagnosis, evaluate when this laser procedure should be performed, and then perform the procedure properly and effectively using laser technology. The course will also cover the practice management and marketing side of this procedure: how to network with lactation consultants, pediatricians, neonatologists, and the rest of the medical team in order to grow your practice of neonatal dentistry.

This course is recommended for general dentists, periodontists, oral surgeons and pediatric dentists.  The course is also open to physicians – including pediatricians, family practitioners, otolaryngologists, as well as chiropractors, and allied health professionals: nurse practitioners, speech pathologists, lactation consultants/IBCLCs, doulas, and more.

Learning objectives: By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Understand how to diagnose anterior tongue ties
  • Understand how to diagnose posterior and submucosal tongue ties
  • Understand how, when, and why to treat neonatal tongue ties
  • Understand the best devices/techniques for treating neonatal tongue ties
  • Perform the procedure effectively using laser technology
